  • Good Neighbors...

From local residents alone, we raised more than $350,000 for our planning phase, with donations ranging from $25 to $50,000.

  • Cross Country Appeal

A retired chemist in California whose company disputed the claims of Silent Spring in 1962 made a donation of $4,000 in support of the museum.

  • Stamp of Approval

Rachel Carson’s primary biographer Dr. Linda Lear and her husband John Nickum are ardent supporters of the museum through generous donations.

We, supported by a talented team of architects, engineers, landscape architects and exhibit designers, are in the process of developing design, programming, and operational plans for the museum.  The cost of this phase is $450,000-- a goal we met with your help on December 31, 2023!

Once our project has been approved by Montgomery Parks and the Montgomery Planning Board, we will renovate the building at Burnt Mills East and surrounding landscape to create a beautiful, accessible museum. Some highlights to include…

  • Resources for Child-Adult exploration on-site and beyond, influenced by Carson's philosophy on the importance of such a relationship.

  • An exploration of the site’s pre-colonial history, including its connection with the Nacotchtank people.

  • An exhibit featuring local unsung nature heroes, as determined by visitors and online submissions and support.

  • An annual International Literary Speakers Series (recognizing that Carson is revered-- as much or more abroad than in the U.S.-- for her beautiful and visionary writing).
